I took a break from painting, and although it was a sweltering day (high of 97°F), Chris took me to Crab Festival in Lacombe, LA.
Fortunately, they had... outdoor air conditioning? These things blew a fine mist of water into the air. It evaporated so quickly it cooled without wetting things much. They ran all day, and the ground wasn't even soggy. And they also had... this. I've seen dog, horse, frog and duck races before, but I can't say I've ever seen a crab race. You should have heard the barker advertising it. Pure comedy. I placed a $3 wager on #8, which I named "Sea on a Biscuit". Unfortunately, it got confused and turned around halfway to the finish line. Two more just did a tango. #4 won this one, despite the handicap of a missing leg. Even crabs need a break from the heat sometimes. This little athlete is getting some bench time. I wonder if the best crab of the day gets a trophy, roses, or even freedom; but more likely they all get butter! They had good music. Ever played "Where's Waldo"? How about "Where's Stef"? I'm in this picture, but not where you'd expect. Or maybe you would, if I mentioned I'd had three beers and a daiquiri by now. "Big Al and the Heavyweights" requested some help from the audience; in particular, a tamborine player. I can do that! Here I am playing "Jambalaya" with them. And of course, there was good food too. All in all, I had a great time!
