Recently we weathered Hurricane Isaac. You may have seen some disturbing pictures in the news. We took pictures too, but instead focused on what beauty we could find.

Our bananas before the storm. Last time this plant produced so much fruit, Hurricane Gustav destroyed them before they could ripen.

Dusk brought some unusually vivid colors.

The full moon peeking through as clouds rapidly move in.

The storm drove a flurry of animals before it, resulting in the appearance of not one, but three rare hummingbird moths.

There's still time for a meal. They lingered for almost an hour, feasting on moonflower nectar despite 30 mile per hour gusts, before vanishing.

Quite large and spectacular creatures, especially for a moth.

This little house gecko was suckered on tight, not bothering to run even when we got close. Hmm, did I pay my car insurance? :)

We count our blessings that we made it through fine.

Thanks for all the emails from people who were concerned about our safety!
